Asphalt crack sealing – Filling the breaks in pavement!

Pavements are an essential part of any building or property. A neat, proper, and well-maintained roadway leaves a good impression on visitors while badly maintained pavement leaves a bad impression. Usually, it is made of asphalt, which ensures its durability. Still, these pathways get cracks over time.
Reasons that cause pavement cracks
  • Heavy loads – Heavy loads are one of the biggest reasons that cause splits in asphalt. Heavy load puts pressure on it, which causes breaks to appear in pavement.
  • Water – Water is another aspect that causes breaks in pathways around building. Water enters in these small or big tears and flows through asphalt effectively breaking more of concrete.
  • Harsh weather conditions – Harsh weather conditions and constant temperature changes also causes cracks to appear in roadway. Rain, snow, sunshine and hails cause damage to pathways, which only grow over time.
  • Other aspects – Aspects like dirt, vegetation, debris, stone or sand also cause damage to pathways around buildings. They cause tears to widen over time. Snow plowing is another aspect that causes damages in asphalt.

What are the dangers of cracks in asphalt?
Whether it’s a small split or a large one, it can expand effectively causing larger portions of pathways to break up over time. Small breaks can turn into bigger potholes. Not only it causes damage to pavements but it also becomes hazardous for people. Anyone can trip over potholes or bigger splits. It is a danger for your visitors’ health.
How these cracks are sealed?
Sealing procedure is usually completed by the hot rubberized crack filler. First, professionals of this field inspect the tears in asphalt. After proper inspection, they clean it with high-pressure blowers and weed eater to get rid of debris, dirt, or vegetation etc. After cleaning, rubber filler is inserted in split that connects both sides of tear properly.
It effectively fills the whole break in pathways. A layer of sand is also applied over rubber to prevent tracking or peeling while filler is still cooling down. Sealing is done to prevent further damage by water or harsh weather conditions. Repair should be done as soon as possible, before damage goes beyond repair.
What are the benefits of crack sealing?
It protects your pavement from getting more damaged. Sealing also provides long lasting yet quality results. It increases the age of your pathways. It saves your money on the costs of asphalt replacement, which is an expensive process. In the end, it keeps your roadway’s well-maintained appearance, which leaves a good impression on visitors.
