Versatile Nature Of Asphalt Milling Services Explained

Milling services in Staten Island are an integral part of the paving industry and are often subjected to new changes from time to time. In order to offer excellent services, companies are turning their attention to new technologies to stay ahead in a competitive environment.

Asphalt Milling Explained

Are you aware of the details of asphalt milling? Asphalt milling is also known as asphalt grinding. Primarily, it is the process of removing part or most of the asphalt surface with an industrial milling machine.

Today, the process of asphalt milling is one of the most traditional forms of asphalt reconstruction you see and probably have noticed it happening in your vicinity without paying much attention to it.

Asphalt milling is done on a lot of highways. Before the new asphalt is placed on the highway surface, you must have noticed those vertical “grooves” that always start and end with a bump. That is what asphalt milling is all about.

Steps In Asphalt Milling

How is the process undertaken? The answer is pretty simple,  Asphalt milling is performed in a series of few steps.

  • Step 1: Firstly, the milling machine rubs off the top layer of asphalt applying a milling drum that is established to the expected depth, normally 2″.

  • Step 2: The asphalt that is rubbed off is taken through the machine to a long conveyor belt that holds the milled asphalt into dump trucks driving at the end of the conveyor.

  • Step 3: The dump truck then takes the “millings” back to the asphalt plant where they are converted and applied to build new asphalt.

  • Step 4: The milled surface that is left behind is then cleaned of any detached debris and is now set for new asphalt.

Advantages Of Asphalt Milling

Like most of the discussions among the asphalt milling service providers revolve around the statement- ‘Asphalt milling is the best’. It is indeed a fact and some of the  notable advantages of milling are mentioned in the following points:

  • Cost Effective: It saves a lot of money. Milling is one of the most inexpensive methods of paving reconstruction.

  • Quick Installation: The quick speed is also another one of the crucial factors. Aside from resurfacing your lot, milling is the quickest solution to asphalt reconstruction.

  • Eco-Friendly: It is environmentally friendly. The milled asphalt is recycled to make new asphalt. While milling is not as ecological as reclaiming/pulverizing.

Therefore, if you are also exploring options to choose the right material for the next paving project, then asphalt is a good option with its versatile nature and economical availability.
